Moog RKP Radial Piston Hydraulic Pump is a variable displacement pump that is engineered to deliver consistent hydraulic pressure and flow control within an open circuit system. For over four decades now, Moog has provided radial piston pumps to the industrial sector. The pump works with the help of several pistons mounted radially around a rotating cylinder block. The pistons push against an adjustable stroke ring. As the cylinder block turns, due to the off-center position of the stroke ring, the pistons extend outwards and then inwards. This creates an increase and decrease in the volume of the piston chambers. Consequently, the pump draws the hydraulic fluid from the inlet port and discharges it at the pressure outlet port.
By varying the stroke ring position, it varies the stroke length of the piston. It will then vary the displacement of the pump and hence its discharge rate. As the stroke ring moves towards the middle, there is reduction in the displacement while moving away from the middle increases the displacement. Variable displacement feature helps the hydraulic system to discharge at a rate that meets the needs of the machinery.
The RKP series are available in displacements of 19, 32, 45, 63, 80 and 140 cubic centimeters per revolution as the standard range from Moog. The maximum allowable speed is from 2,100 rpm to 2,900 rpm, depending on the pump chosen and operating conditions. The series are offered with various means of controlling pressure, flow and displacement.
