Mitsubishi AM Hydraulic Motor is an axial piston swash plate type design that produces high torque with low- to medium-speed range capability. According to Mitsubishi, the AM motors are simple yet compact in design which has been developed with high reliability, high efficiency and high-pressure operation capability. The axial piston design enables it to be used in hydraulic drives requiring practical combination of torque, speed, compact package size and controlled rotation.

The fixed displacement motor range include AMC-12A, AMC-15A and AMC-30A. The displacements of AMC-12A, AMC-15A and AMC-30A are 125, 150 and 300 cm³/rev respectively. They have the same rated pressure of 27.5 MPa and maximum pressure of 34.3 MPa. The rated speeds of AMC-12A and AMC-15A are 1,200 min⁻¹ while the maximum speeds are 1,600 min⁻¹. For AMC-30A, the rated speed is 1,000 min⁻¹ while maximum speed is 1,200 min⁻¹. The rated torques of AMC-12A, AMC-15A and AMC-30A are 0.51.

Code AM refers to the fixed motor, displacement, series, attachment and shaft configuration. Mitsubishi offers options for models that are not fitted with an attachment or have a mechanical brake, as well as straight key, external spline and internal spline shafts. This enables the user to select the right option, which can be applied to different drive trains and machine configurations. The proper displacement, shaft, mounting, braking requirement, rotation and port layout need to be checked prior to purchasing or installing the motor.

Axial piston motors require clean hydraulic oil as well as correct case-drain arrangement for effective operation. Inlet pressure, return pressure, speed and loading should be maintained within the selected motor specifications. Contaminants, aeration, misalignment, and shaft loading can result in wear, noises, leaks and increased temperatures. Inspection needs to include cleanliness of the oil, filters, hoses, couplings, mounting bolts and leaks. Performance testing is useful to distinguish motor wear from issues with the rest of the system.
